Sector Defence Weapons

SD fighter tech determines how many fighters defend your sector. The more fighters, the harder it is to get into the sector and take your planets.

This is the tech that actually does stack. Because the cost of a technology increases faster than what you get per upgrade, it is most monetarrily efficient to upgrade this equally on all planets in the sector. It will cost you less money for an equal number of fighters.

EDIT(MaxG): Note that each SD Fighter requires energy to operate in an attack. If the home planets do not have sufficient energy to supply the fighters, they are useless in the attack, and sustain heavy losses w/o attacking the enemy. Always make sure your planets are set to produce enough energy to maintain the fighters in the event of an attack.

Finally, if you're one of those people that always has to know the numbers for everything (like me), each fighter requries 2.5 energy units from any one of the planets in the sector per attack. That energy, as far as I know, does not have to be on any given planet, for example, the planet with the fighter techs.

This means if you have 20 million fighters, one billion energy will sustain them for twenty attacks. That may seem like a lot, but it really isn't, since every little attack and run does that. Even suiciding with a pioneer on the SD drains energy.
